Ovulation test?

Can someone explain to me how these tests work? I am supposed to be ovulating this day but the test is negative.

I found it's best to get a big box of the strips and test 2-3 times per day starting at like CD 10 or earlier just in case it comes early you won't miss it. Apps just guess you at mid cycle or 14 days before next predicted period which may or may not be right at all. You can also get a negative in the morning but positive that night. Wish I knew about this method when I was trying for my first! I always felt confused about when I actually ovulated and felt like I couldn't figure it out. Now I just tape all my strips to a paper and label and the peak is super easy to see. I only BD on my ovulation day this past cycle and got my bfp!
