Would I be able to punish my 18 year old for smoking weed?

I have an 18 year old daughter and a 17 year old stepson. I caught them smoking weed with their friends in my stepson's car. I grounded him and took his car and phone since he's still underage but I was wondering if I would be able to successfully punish my 18 year old as well because I know people say you can't because they're adults. She's still under my roof though so..

About some weeks ago a mother was asking if she should let her 17 year old son go to his girlfriend's house and everyone was bashing her saying hes practically an adult.. I wonder, has anyone on this app actually met 17 and 18 year olds? Sure 17 can legally consent and 18 is legally an adult but with them still being adolescents, they are immature as hell and not ready for stuff like sex or weed. Obviously if they want to do it they'll find a way, but that doesn't mean the parents should enable it just because it'll happen anyways. Do what you want because she's under your roof.

I personally wouldn’t.
It’s legal in Canada and the legal age is 19. If they are being safe and smoking in my house and don’t plan on driving, I don’t see an issue with it.

Why would you even want to punish someone for smoking weed? It’s no different than alcohol at this point legally and it’s a lot less harmful too. Pick your battles.

I think it matters if they are still in high school. Marijuana is illegal in my state, so I would absolutely be having a serious conversations with our children if they choose to do that, especially in our home since we do not choose to do that. We know many who do, but it’s not part of our lifestyle.

Educate both of them on the proven negative affects weed can have on an adolescent's brain. Honestly if they are going to do it they will. It's better to educate them and do your best to to keep an open and honest dialogue about it and hopefully they make the right choice. Punishing them will just make them keep secrets.

Yes you can punish her, but in my honestly opinion it is just pot. There is absolutely nothing wrong with smoking weed. Now if she was doing anything else, different story. If she was intoxicated and out driving, different story. She is at home safe. Weed does not do anything except making you tired, laugh, hungry, and just happy in my personal opinion.
