Waking the baby to feed while asleep?

So, I have heard of some moms letting the baby sleep during the night and letting them wake on their own to feed and then some moms waking the baby up to feed. What do you do?

I woke my son up every three hours to feed him until he made his birth weight

With our first, we woke her to feed every three hours until her doctor told us we could start letting her sleep! Basically when she got back up to birth weight and they were happy that she was eating and gaining weight. At first she would still wake naturally about every three hours but little by little she would start sleeping longer 🙌

I was told to wake my daughter and this time around I’m not listening to that unless the doctor specifically tells me to. Especially because we are formula feeding so I know exactly how much he is taking in.

I woke her up the first few nights but she wouldn’t stay awake to nurse so from 9 pm to 6 am I let her sleep, she normally woke up around 12-3

It depends on how long they are sleeping. My daughter didn’t sleep longer then1.5 hour stretches for months, so I never had to wake her.

Wake to feed. With my first I didnt always do that the first week, especially if he had just fallen asleep after hours of crying. In the end I didn't have enough milk and he ended up loosing too much weight. So they wanted me to stop breast feeding and just pump and give bottle+formula until he recovered. I ended up doing breast+bottle+pump because I was afraid he would refuse the breast otherwise. But I now think those night feeds are crucial to get a sufficient milk supply and baby on track. At least for me.
