Do you have a “village” to help raise your child?

Question

The saying goes “it takes a village to raise a child”. Both of my husband’s and  I’s families live out of state and so do our best friends. While we have friends and meet up with them. They are somewhat casual relationships. I don’t feel like we have a super tight strong community for my child. It’s one of the things I want to work on this year. Just wondering how others feel.

Nope and I don’t need one, not that help or a babysitter is a bad thing to have (we could use a date night) but I don’t think people’s decision for children should be based off this, you and your partner are choosing to have the baby to raise yourselves, not for others to raise... so no, I don’t think it “takes a village” I think it takes two loving parents.

I moved countries to be with my husband. We live an hour away from his family. He works 12 shifts days and nights. I did everything myself when he wasn’t home and we were 50/50 (minus nursing) when he was home. His mom would visit weekly if she could and spend an hour to 2 hours with us and playing with my daughter.
I’m also the type that does everything myself. I don’t tend to rely on others minus the odd times we needed a babysitter after my daughter went to bed 🤷🏻‍♀️ 
I find myself more anxious if people are around all the time.

I had a village when my son was born and he still has that village.. it’s mostly grandparents and aunts and uncles.. my daughter does not have that and if I could have had that agin I would in a heartbeat!!it doesn’t “take” a village, but if the village is there and surrounds you and your child wiry love.. accept it. And be the same for others.. 
I think people misconstrue this concept a lot.. “it takes a village” it doesn’t mean a bunch of close people helping you and taking turns.. it means reaching out to someone who needs help (with in bounds) and accepting help when you need it. I learned this volunteering and when I needed help.. I have seen people who have nothing to give, give the most they could to help.

My fiancé and I care for our son 24/7. Even when we go to my families house or his. To us, it’s no one else’s responsibility to help us as we planned to have him. We don’t mind. Plus, we like things done a certain way for him and some people just can’t do it right.

I am lucky to have a small village. My parents, my in-laws, aunt/uncle, honorary aunts/uncles. Couldn’t do this single mom life without them!

Yes. Sometimes there is too much village happening but we are very grateful to have family watch him while we work and when we have little date nights and things.

We are on our own. Both our families are in another continent. It would certainly make it easier to have family around specially when son (1y8m)is sick and one of us has to skip work or when one of us is sick and need time to recover.
I admire single parents or people with FIFO partners because I’m not sure if I could cope without my husband’s help. We split all the housework, educating and caring for our son too. We both speak our own separate language to our son and he learns English at daycare 3 days a week. 
I grew up with all my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins (we are 14 in this generation) and we are really close. I feel a little bit sad that my son is missing out on the opportunity to bond with other family members like I did growing up. Luckily we have made nice friendships with other young families and we hang out a lot. So he’s getting his dose of social interaction. 
Support each other and always communicate :) you can do this !

It’s just me and my husband. My mom works full time and has my disabled dad to take care of. My MIL is “contracted” with my SIL for three years of child care. Plus we can’t afford a babysitter, so we are pretty much on our own.

No village here my mom comes once in a while and if I absolutely need it she would babysit for a few hours other than that it’s me and my hubby the best advice I can give you is sleep train your kids and keep an schedule and it will be a lot easier 😘
