Experienced Mamas... Bassinet?

Question

Do you mamas recommend getting a bedside bassinet? Is it worth the money? How long did baby sleep in your room?
What specific Bassinet did you use! Recommendations wanted!!!!

I have this one for my 2nd daughter. Have yet to use it because I’m still pregnant, but I also used a bedside bassinet with my 1st so I highly recommend using one over co sleeper if you have the space to spare. I hang a diaper caddy on the side so her diaper stuff can be nearby. Then a nightstand with her feeding essentials. When I’m tired and she needs a diaper change, I’ll sit up and change her in between my legs on my bed then place her back. This bassinet doesn’t rock, and I prefer it to not to.

I went to a safety class this weekend and the EMTs said nothing that attaches to the bed or is right up against the bed. They have seen pillows accidentally pushed into the bassinet and suffocated babies before. 😭. Their advice was whatever crib/bassinet I use, just keep a moat between me and the baby so pillows, blankets, burp cloths, etc fall on the floor and not on the baby. Now I'm planning on a Pack n Play with the bassinet, kind of at a 90 degree angle against the wall by my headboard. I had wanted to be able to reach out and feel her breathing, but seeing the EMTs tear up as they talk about babies they couldn't save really hit me hard. 😢
A couple cool things I learned were babies still have soft bones and not much muscle, the things that make hard surfaces uncomfortable for adults. So the firm surfaces to them are just fine. They have the most developed nerves on their backs and bottom of their feet. So putting them to sleep on their back is self soothing, just like rubbing or patting their backs calms them.

We got a bassinet that flipped around and became a changing table. Made it worth it cuz baby was only in our room for 6-8 weeks then transitioned to her own crib. Then we just bought the bassinet/changing table downstairs which made diaper changes down there super easy

Yes I recommended one and found it made my life sooo much easier although my baby didn’t sleep much anywhere as they didn’t like being put down to sleep. I’d say any that are safe and attach to the bed are best :) x

We have Arms Reach. In the beginning my son hated it, and would only sleep with me. He slept with me until 2 months and we migrated him back into the bedside sleeper. Now he sleeps in there like a champ and through the night!

I love having a bassinet. I can’t even imagine my little baby in her own room in her crib, I need her closer than that

My nieces refused to sleep in one. We won’t be using one with our son because he has a crib. I find them to be a waste of money usually

I used a pack n play for my baby. She hates sleeping in it, so now she sleeps in my bed. At least the pack n play has other uses though so it’s not a total waste like a bassinet would be in that scenario.
