How long should an almost 7 month old be sitting unsupported?

Question

I know it’s normal for a baby not to sit unsupported until as late as 9 months! But generally speaking most babies sit at 6 months so how long should that be for? 
My son is 7 months on 11th Feb and is currently sitting up unsupported (straight back and not resting on hands) for a minute or two. Does this sound average? 
As if you hadn’t guessed, an over-anxious first time mum!!

Sounds normal. My kids would sit up and fall within 2 minutes and sometimes could sit for 20 mins without falling. Most of the time they’d get off balance and just not catch themselves in time. You can practice by putting baby on the ground to sit often during the day and put a boppy or a pillow behind them.

Sounds great! The range of “normal” for these things is huge. My daughter did everything early (words at 9 mo, walking at 11), my son?? He did everything late. Didn’t roll around or crawl till after 1 and walked finally at 16 mo. I joke that my kids are the reason there’s an average. I got the spectrum!

Sounds normal! My daughter did EVERYTHING “late” as a baby and the pediatrician was never worried. She never crawled and didn’t start walking until 15 months. Now that she’s a toddler you’d never know she hit those milestones “late”. There’s a big range of normal for these things.
