When to take baby to the dentist?

Hi all,

I’m just wondering when you made the first dental appointment for your LOs?

My son turns 7 months on 11th Feb and cut his first teeth a few weeks ago. The top set seems to be making their way down now so I’m sure they’ll cut within the next few weeks also.

I do have my own appointment in April so I’m wondering if I should take babe with me then (if that’s even allowed?!) or if it should be sooner since he already has teeth?

TIA

Once they have their 1st tooth is the most up to date advice now according to my Dentist and HV xx

My daughter first went when she as about 10 months and had about 3/4 teeth. Dentist managed to have a good look and she’s been two more times since. She’s not great at opening her mouth now but is used to being there and is very stubborn and requires a sticker for bribery 😂 my dentist don’t allow you to take your child in with you unless they can be in a pram (up two flights of stairs and small room) it’s best to go as much as you can especially as it’s free but don’t stress about going until they actually have a few teeth through (they could take ages to come down enough to see)

I believe official advise is to take them when they cut their first tooth, or after their 1st birthday (whichever happens first). I didn't take my daughter until she was 2 as tbh I just didn't get around to registering her and then our local NHS dentist shut down. It takes about 3 mins if that for her check up so you could take them with you in April and ask? Or call up to see if he can be added onto your appt?

I took my daughter with me everytime I went for my checkups just to get her used to the smell etc and so she could watch. Our dentist said that there was no point in doing a proper checkup on her until she was about 2 as kids are rubbish at opening their mouth and letting dentist put anything in it, kids instinct is to bite closed apparently 🙈👶🤣
