HSG Test

So I was wondering who in this group has had the HSG test and if so what were your outcomes? I have been trying over a year and all tests are normal (unexplained fertility). My doc has signed me up for the test but insurance of course won’t cover it. I’m trying to determine if it’s worth getting it or holding off a few more months and keep trying naturally and maybe do a medication first. Insights?

Update: I had the test today. My left was completely open but no spillage in my right. He couldn’t determine if it was because it was blocked or maybe my tube had a spasm and prevents the dye from spilling out. But he also told me my ovarian reserve after my last blood test showed my eggs are a bit older for my age and wants to start me on Clomid next cycle if no BFP. Anyone have any success stories if this sounds similar to theirs?? I’m thankful for my doc who is supporting me and helping me along the way. I also hope this post may help someone in the future. I won’t give up having a baby!

How did the test go? I have a low egg count too at 32yo. My doc doesn’t say it’s impossible to get pregnant, I just hope I still have some viable eggs.

I had one. I would recommend it. It’s such a waste of money to do a bunch of medications and IUIs (which are also not covered by insurance) only to find out you had an obstructed tube. I had one last month. My insurance didn’t cover it because it was fertility treatment and it cost me about $500. But now I have piece of kind that my tubes are open and now every medicine I take I know the possibility of pregnancy is real.

I was scheduled for one on January 13th. Found out I was pregnant on January 3rd so I’m glad I didn’t waste my money. But everyone is different...

So did I! I got the test on a Thursday and, as best I can tell, conceived on either Wednesday or Thursday of the following week.

Some say it clears your tubes and helps you conceive that was the case for me

I had one and it was very worth it. I found out i had masses in my uterus. No symptoms or issues and a normal regular cycle. They did a second test a day later with a small camera and confirmed the masses were uterine polyps.Without the HSG I wouldn't have known about the polyps. Did a procedure to remove them and we are now ttc again.

I had one since I had tubal reversal. It showed that my right tube was open and had spillage, and my left tube was slow to fill with no confirmed spillage. I went to a fertility dr since insurance doesn’t cover ANYTHING and I only paid $250, which was cheaper than most places that do them, so I was more than happy about that! Good luck with your test

I had one in January and got pregnant right after. My tubes were clear but I think the flushing definitely helped. We were trying over almost a year at that point. Unfortunately it ended in a miscarriage 9-10 weeks. But I would definitely recommend the test. take some pain meds before and get rest after. It wasn’t as bad as I anticipated it to be and it helped us get pregnant right away. Best of luck to you ❤️❤️

I had an hsg test done on Friday. After I was set up and they moved the pillow from underneath me the Cather came out it barely hurt just more uncomfortable. Then they did it the second time and omg it was super painful. Once they set it all up again. It felt like diarrhea cramping. The doctor came in they started the dye. But it kept going to one spot but I felt no pain from the dye. They pushed the dye through like 3 times the doctor kept saying that he sees so many veins and the contrast isn’t moving from that area. So I kept asking so is it open or not. My pain started before the dye so after reading trying to get answers I’m thing that I was maybe I was having spasms or it’s just closed. Doctor said he didn’t know that his report would be done by end of the day and sent to the doctor. Very frustrating I was told I would know something right away. Luckily the HSG was covered with our insurance. Beforehand I talked to my primary doctor and they referred me to a specialist who wanted me to get the hsg before they seen me to know where we were at with our fertility. We gave Tricare insurance.
