Comfort objects?

My son is 13 months and has not slept through the night since he was born. I was advised by my doctor to introduce a comfort toy/teddy to help him sleep. Is it too late? Any advice on how to introduce one?

It's not to late, my daughter is 16 months and I introduced a cuddly monkey a few months ago.
To start with every night as I was putting her to bed I'd lay her down and put monkey in her arms. Then after a month or so of that I now get her ready for bed give her monkey and lay her down and she goes straight to sleep.
