How am I supposed to react when people are disappointed I am not foreign??

I always get asked " where are you from?"  People think I am African.   Even other African Americans think I am African.   
When I reply that I am African American they are usually uninterested in continuing the convo.  How do I respond to this?  It's kinda annoying.

Sometimes people are just trying to make small talk! Maybe you can just say “I’m from ___ (name of state or city) but my parents are from ___” or “but I have a lot of relatives in ___”. I don’t think anyone is disappointed by where you are or are not from? Lol

Just start messing with them and make up a fake country. That’s what I would do. I am from ___ and make up a bunch of weird facts about it

Girl same. I’m like 6th gen American with mexican and Native Indian heritage. I literally just say I’m from “here (USA)” when I’m asked
