Is it irresponsible to hang out with someone (as friends) when you know they like you? (Read description)

I’m single and I’ve made it clear that if I hang out with this person it’s only as friends. They asked me to hang out recently. They’re pretty cool and I think they’d be a cool friend. Also they’re the only friend I made in my first semester of college, and I kinda need more friends... But is it still irresponsible? Like could that still be considered leading them on?

Make sure you call them buddy, friend, Pal, dude, man, etc. Not sweetie, honey, type of terms of endearment to make sure they know where they stand. I have a lot of male friends and yes some like me, but they know I am never going there, that it is completely platonic. Or i usually have a boyfriend. If they can’t respect that you just want to be friends or that their behavior makes you uncomfortable then you are better off alone than in bad company. And remind them, just friends, sometimes they forget. Friend zone. My best friend of 30 years is a guy. Most of my friends are men, some ex’s, some that wish I would be with them, and some that are just friends. Guys are less complicated and drama than females. Plus growing up with 7 boys in the house and being the only girl and the baby, I kinda got used to it. If they are hoping down deep to catch you at a moment of vulnerability or drunk and take advantage then no. Play it cool and be his friend and see how things go. If you get a bad vibe then walk away. But be cautious. Me and a person I thought understood this. (Never called him him or sweetie and constantly reminded him we were friends) would go hang out at the bars together. I found out later that any guys who bought me a drink or showed interest in me he would follow into the bar and tell them he was either with me or trying to hook up with me (which explained a lot later).  At on point I feel he was respecting boundaries and was always touching me and told him he needed to stop and got super offended and turned on me and told me that I didn't know now what kind of signals I was sending him and how touchy I was when I was drunk. Which I 100% promise you never ever happened and when I proved he was lying he resorted to more hurtful slander. Not saying the same will happen. Just be aware of boundaries! And be very clear!
