Labor injury: Should I complain to the hospital?

Haley

My baby girl was born on Jan 20th after I had a medical induction at 37 weeks. I had a rough pregnancy and labor...par for the course. What my issue is, I have nerve root damage in my right leg. I could not even get myself to the edge of the bed for the first few days post partum. The numbness is slowly subsiding and being replaced with pain (the doctor said this is a good sign). I couldn't carry my baby for over a week and still can not walk her up and down the steps. This is problematic because we only have upstairs bedrooms. The neurologist ruled out the damaged being caused by my epidural and agrees that it was from over stretching my leg while I was pushing. I felt like the nurse tech was pushing my leg too far and I kept pushing my leg forward. She continued to move it back where she had it. The labor nurse had to stop and recenter my hips multiple times. Every time commenting on making sure my hips stayed square. Should I complain to the hospital? I have at least 6-8 weeks recovery time and need PT. Before leaving the hospital I had to have amconsults with 3 different departments and continued to see a neurologist. This issue extended my hospital stay. I also work in an old 3 story church. When I go back to work every time my class has to go up or down I will have to use the elevator. Doesn't seem like a big deal but I will have to find someone to walk with my kids.

Edit: Today the neurologist told me he has never seen this and had a hard time finding literature on it. It happens somewhere between 1 in 10,000 and 1 in 100,000.
