Horrible looking rash on my 1 year old... Possibly Roseola?
I have no idea why to think or do as a first time mom, am I being over dramatic if I take him in this weekend? Or from your experience as a momma who has dealt with sick kiddos, would you wait until Monday like the nurses have said over the phone? He got his measles vaccine last Tuesday January 28th when he went for his 1 year check up.... got a fever of 102.5 but it went away with Tylenol. Now this Tuesday (exactly one week after his shot) he lost his appetite, is cranky, and had a fever of 102.5 again. We gave Motrin, and the fever went up to 103.5.... then it kept going up and reached 104. I called the after hours doctor because the fever kept going up after the medicine, and they didn’t seem concerned and said that if the fever lasts more than 3 days, reaches 105, or he stops having wet diapers, THEN they would be a bit more concerned.
Well his fever ended up staying until Thursday morning (it stayed between 102.5-103.5 and never reached 104 again), but this fever was with him constantly being given medicine rotating Motrin and Tylenol per the pediatricians orders. Well I felt good when the fever broke yesterday morning, but last night he stared getting a rash all over his body. Today it’s so much worse! I called the pediatrician again and they said that a rash after a high fever is common and not to be concerned unless the fever comes back or the rash didn’t start to get better in a few days.
He is still more cranky than usual with a poor appetite, but he’s staying hydrated and the fever has stayed away so that’s good! I was originally going to give it until Monday and if the rash is still this bad I was going to just bring him in to be seen even if they tell me not to worry about it.... but I’m wondering if this would warrant an urgent care visit over the weekend... Should I be concerned??
