I usually only count my period as the days with full red flow. Then just mark the other days as spotting.

Answer

You are supposed to count cycle day 1 as your first day of full flow. If some of those spotting days were before that, you shouldn't count them. I think that is all that really matters for ttc. It doesn't matter when you say it ends because it's just important to know what cycle day you're on. I count the first day I see red and need more than just a panty liner as day one of my period and usually put that it's ended when it's totally gone.
