Do you think the media is trying to spread panic about the coronavirus?

Some of the headlines are misleading or fear-inducing. Like the most recent one says, “first American dies from coronavirus.” Which is technically true but the America was still IN Wuhan. But the headline was to get Americans to panic. And the fact that so many news outlets were willing to blame it on the bat soup although that wasn’t confirmed wasn’t right imo.
I know coronavirus is a serious issue that’s killing 1000s but American media seems to want Americans to fear it even though it’s not our biggest threat.

It’s not our biggest threat, but it is a threat. I think it is mostly in the news due to all of the people—Americans included—who have been quarantined. It’s also effecting our business with China.. I work in apparel and only part of our Hong Kong office is back in after Chinese New Year.. there are also factories we work with where the workers are not yet back to work because they are in quarantined areas or traveling from them. It’s bigger then strictly health

It’s funny because I actually heard the opposite.  That the news/government was hiding the whole truth about how dangerous this virus actually is. Who knows what’s true anymore,  I just hope it doesn’t become a pandemic.  I do think articles will say anything for click bate.  I’m in Canada and until I hear about it spreading uncontrollably here I’m not going to worry to much about it.

Actually a lot of doctors from wuhan are coming out and saying that it’s more serious than the government is showing. This happened before with sars where they tried to cover it up. I’ve seen some doctors report the death toll is actually near 20,000. But it’s hard to know because it’s just a he said she said thing. But at the end of the day if they did it before they could do it again. I wouldn’t be too worried about it. But people are dying. The new death report that was made today has gone to over 800, bigger than SARS officially. I think it’s a good thing to make people a little scared just so they’re prepared worst case scenario

I thi is it's also because this is kind of a new thing that everyone can be interested in that media wants to draw people to their articles. Kind of like clickbait and since it's a topic that all people would look up and read about they're trying to get the most views
