Why am I getting way less?

So I’m a single mom of a toddler and last year I got $6,000 for tax returns. This year I’m only getting $2,000... I work full time and did last year as well (different jobs) could I have done my taxes wrong? It says I owe $1,000 which last year I owed $0...

That’s a good thing.  It means you didn’t over pay through the year.

Did you make more this year? Sometimes that's the case if you entered into a new tax bracket.

Because you’re finally not overpaying your taxes so much. Taxes aren’t free money - whatever you get is the extra you paid during the year so if your return is smaller that means that you took home more money. It balances itself out

Taxes are a way for the government to take part of your paycheck to pay for things you use Like roads, street lights, stop signs etc. You tell the government approximately how much you think you will owe based on how much you make. The money you owe, or get at the end of the year is the difference. 
If you have a hard time saving money it can be a good way to get a large sum of money at one time. However keep in mind that you gave that money to the government all year interest free for them to return it at the end of the year. It would be better to put it in a bank account that makes 2% interest and you only go into after tax season. 
I try to owe a few hundred dollars every year that way the government essentially gave me a loan all year.

My husband and I ended up owed for the first time this year. The tax preparer said that’s there’s a new section on your W-4 that you need you fill out to have the government take more taxes out of your checks IF you want to get a bigger pay out at the end of the year.
