Is it bad my daughters first bday theme is Elmo?

I was with my s/o’s family and they asked what theme I had for my daughters first. I said at first it was Bambi because I liked Bambi but I changed it to Elmo because that’s what she liked.

I got different hurtful comments like “oh Elmo why? That’s so chunti” and I felt like I had to had an explanation so I said it’s because she loved it and I rather have a theme she loved rather than what I love. Then one of his cousins went “oh well if I’m going to pay all that money it’s going to be what I like”. Then they turned and told each other how excited they were for the others baby birthday and what they were going to wear.

I have no idea why they’re like this. I never started drama or fought with them. Only thing that ever happened was that they yelled at me because I didn’t give my baby a hat.

I feel so uncomfortable with them now. I don’t even think I want a party or to even invite them despite paying $100 for some of the decorations already.
