Introducing pets to baby
We've had our dog for 3/4 of his life now, he's a rescue dog. 4 years old and by no means small. He hasn't been around children nor do we have any friends/family with young kids or babies. He's pretty well trained and we used a shock collar to train him. However we know dogs can bite and are aware of that. We don't plan on leaving either alone. We plan to have a basket of new toys for him too to hopefully distract him and not be as jealous. We've read about introducing dogs to babies and have a plan. Our tentative plan is to have my husband take him on a long trip to a trail where he can exhaust the dog before they meet. My husband will bring him the baby's scent to him. I'll most likely have the baby upon entering the house since the dog favors my husband. We plan to have him keep his distance for awhile.
We're more worried about jealousy when my husband has the baby as we have a baby doll that we carry around and he ignores me with it and whines when he holds it.
Does anyone have any tips from what they've done? What do you all plan on doing?
