What do you consider your first day of your cycle?

Do you count the day you see blood for do you count when you’re able to soak a pad or tampon( or diva cup of you use those)

The day you see blood, for example the first day I see spotting or hardly any and the following days I see more

My fertility clinic doesn’t have me count spotting. First day of “flow”, bright red and requires a pad or tampon or it would go through your pants

I’m typically spot for 2 days before flow.. and I used to count the day of red blood and flow as day 1. But recently read that the spotting is caused by the drop in progesterone and to count any spotting/blood as day 1.
