How long do you let baby fuss/cry at night?

Okay, so I'm a very light sleeper and our son has been in his own room since about 3.5 weeks. After he gets up during the night and we do our business, he'll often fuss. I was just curious how long you let you baby fuss and/or cry for at night before going to soothe them. He is now 5 weeks.

I listen for about 30 seconds (basically long enough for my brain to wake up and my body to feel stable standing) because she often makes small sounds when she’s awake, but isn’t really fussing. She rarely fusses. But if she is, I pick her up immediately. I agree with the other commenters that newborns are too young to sleep train. We’ll start that around 4 months.

If she's just fussing/grunting I'll give her a minute or so to see if she calms back down. Most of the time when she's fussing she's either pooping or still asleep and dreaming. If she is still fussing I'll check on her (usually she lost her nuk) but I don't like to pick her up unless she's actually crying. If she starts to cry I will go get her right away.

I'm sleeping in the same room as my babe, usually if she's grunting/fussing I don't immediately get up to soothe because I've gotten to know that she tends to just make a lot of noises that aren't crying. I'm up the instant it changes from a fuss to crying. I'd say lots of times the grunting is her working out a poop, in which case I also get up.

Fussing and grunting is okay as long as baby doesn’t seem to be in distress. Id give baby a minute or so if that before picking them up. My baby does this for 30 seconds and then falls back asleep. If the baby cries at all, I would definitely pick them up. My doc said I could do 5 minute intervals for 24 minutes of crying with soothing and rocking in between, but we are holding off a few more weeks for that.
