When are you starting to phase out formula?

I feel like I could go ahead and make the switch from formula to whole milk but my parents think he still needs to have formula till exactly one year. He turns one on Feb 23rd. He drinks a few ounces of whole milk daily and loves it.

Well how much is he currently drinking of formula? When he goes to whole milk he needs to have about 12 ounces of whole milk daily. If he’s still doing a lot more formula then that, then I’d wait. If he is declining on the formula then is switch. Nothing magical about turning 1 year old. My son personally is staying on formula for awhile longer, because he isn’t drinking much whole milk if any at all. He refuses it.

We technically started a week before she turned one. I ran out and wasn’t buying more. She still got it at daycare for a while though.

I didn’t phase it out, I just switched to whole milk cold turkey and she drank it just fine!  She was only drinking a morning and night bottle and a few ounces from a sippy cup during the day.

My daughter was one on Saturday and when we saw the pediatrician on Monday, she said we could start transitioning to whole milk. She said do 50/50 to start and then over the course of a week transition.  She currently has an ear infection and is snotty, so I’m waiting until that clears to start.

i waited until seeing her dr for 12 month check up just to make sure he gave me the go ahead to switch. and i didn’t do any phasing out or weaning i just switched and she doesn’t seem to have any problem except she needs it to be warm and she likes me to stay next to her when she drinks it. i do still nurse in the morning though

My pediatrician said we could start adding 1oz of whole milk at our 9 month appointment. I thought that was kinda early and made her gassy so we gave it a real shot at maybe 10 1/2 months. She said to add an ounce every week until its all whole milk. We slipped up a little bit in keeping it consistent and I've tried to give her a whole milk bottle but she won't finish it so we're doing half and half and progressing to a full bottle. She turned one on the 6th.

At 11.5 months I’m going to start adding an ounce of whole milk with his formula and up it till it’s all whole milk, that way by 12 months there should be no more formula

To clarify, he got formula until a year and a day. But around a week before his birthday we started doing his bottles (6oz total) 4oz formula, 2 cow milk. Then a few days later half and half. And then the past few days 2oz formula, 4 oz cow milk. Tonight will be his first all milk bottle.

We saw our pediatrician at 11 months and she said as long as he was tolerating dairy, and wasn’t on special formula we could transition to whole milk. We are two weeks till 1 year and he is on whole milk completely. We are also on 3 bottles of 5oz whole milk and 1 bottle of 5oz water with one of his meals. Dr gave this recommendation.
