Did you do perineal massages starting at 34 weeks?

I’m a FTM and I had my husband attempt to do one for me and it burned 😭 is it supposed to? I’m going to try again tomorrow. Does it actually help during birth?

My midwife told me yesterday at my 34 week appointment to start at 36 weeks and that it SHOULD sting.

I started it from 34 weeks. I do it myself and it doesn’t burn me. I brought an oil called “Peri Prep” but it’s a U.K. site. What are you using?

There’s not research to show if this helps or not, so I won’t be doing it to avoid the discomfort in the weeks leading up to birth.

I asked my dr and she said it doesn’t really help but if it eased our minds then to do it. She said every baby body and labor are different. Some people think it works but they probably wouldn’t haven’t torn anyway. And some people do it religiously and still tear. So we’re opting to not and fingers crossed 😬

My husband tried twice or three times using preseed but then we stopped bcus it was such a turn off for me. It made me not want him to touch me at all down there so we stopped.
I feel like it’s good to do it just to get used to the feeling.. and I’ve heard it can help.
