My birth story
Yesterday I had my 39 week appointment. I was 39 weeks and 1 day. I went to my appointment and was told I was 3 cm and effaced with a lot of pressure. My doctor said he wouldn't be surprised if I went into labor that night. In case my boy didn't come, he set me up with an induction date for Thursday morning. When he checked me he swept my membranes.
I got home about 3:45 and by 4 I was feeling crampy. I figured I was just checked and had my membranes swept so I expected to feel crampy. Well I noticed that my cramps came and went about 5 minutes apart. Less than an hour later I started to notice the pain 3 minutes apart. So I decided to start timing them with my contraction timer.
I ended up timing my contractions 2 minutes apart and the pain getting worse. It was hard to do anything at that point and my timer was recommending that I get ready for the hospital so I called and they said to come in and get monitored.
I got to the hospital about 6:30 and got checked and out on a monitor. 4.5 centimeters dilated and still having contractions 2 minutes apart. I was told I would be admitted and I was having my baby!
I got to my delivery room and they started to get me all set up and checked me again. I was at 6 centimeters. They rush the anesthesiologist and after getting my epidural they checked me and I was at 7 centimeters. I stayed at about 7.5 for an half hour and then I started to have a panic attack because I couldn't feel or wiggle my toes and I didn't like that and so I was given anxiety medication and they broke my water to get the process going. When they checked about 15 minutes after breaking my water they said I was 10 cm and ready to push. I pushed for 6 minutes and my boy was born! It felt like so much longer for pushing because every time i was having a contraction my anxiety would spike and I'd feel pressure in my lower back from the baby. But he was so worth it!
4 hours of labor and 6 minutes of pushing!
