Who's had a sweep??

So I've seen the consultant who has requested I go for a sweep at 39 weeks (22nd Feb) I was just wondering if anyone has had 1 at 39 weeks their experience of it and the results.

Hi, I’m in the UK. I’ve had my second sweep today. I can honestly say it didn’t hurt one big. It wasn’t even uncomfortable. She said my cervix was low and soft but I wasn’t dilated. She was able to fit two fingers inside and touch the baby’s head . She explained that if a perosns cervix is hard and high it is more painful. So your experience will really depend on the condition of your cervix. I asked that if it was hard and high then not to bother as my baby obviously was not ready. Luckily it was in a more favourable condition.  I hope that helps x

I had a sweep at 38 weeks and they are definitely uncomfortable but they are helpful. That was a week ago and I haven’t gone into labor but I’m hoping this week I have progressed. It caused me to have some bleeding and have a lot of mucus come lose. I’ve also had contractions this week.

Had one yesterday 38+3, was a fingertip dilated and didn't even feel the sweep. He said much cervix was soft and easy to reach. Going back for another tomorrow 🤞🏾 just want this baby outtttt

As you might have gathered from the other comments, how uncomfortable it can be is subjective and depends a lot on how dilated you are already. I had mine a couple days ago at 38 weeks, dilated to almost 3cm, and it was still pretty uncomfortable for me; however, my cervical check the week before when I was only 1-2cm was a lot worse. You may want to take a Tylenol before your appointment so it’s not as sensitive! Afterward, you may have some cramping, BH and increased discharge for the next few days. Sometimes this spurs labor and other times it doesn’t... with my first child, I had a sweep around 39 weeks and he was still 4 days late.

I had a sweep at 37 weeks it was uncomfortable but went away after awhile. But it didn't work for me. My Dr said it's a 50/50 chance of it working.

I had a sweep yesterday at 39+1. I was only a centimeter dilated. It was pretty uncomfortable and painful for me. I experienced light cramping yesterday but nothing today. I was hoping it would help me progress but so far nothing....
