Freaking out, need an outsiders perspective!

Ok this is about my career and I’m kinda pissed off/freaking out. I need an outsiders perspective.

So, I recently started a new role at my company. I’ve been with them over 6 years now but I moved department about a month and half ago. We make vaccines and the job is hard in terms of there really isn’t a room for error if you can help it.

So last week i prepared a batch for release and stupidly I checked my work emails at home today and this guy at work (let’s call him P) has sent an email to everyone saying there’s an error on that batch. I immediately knew it was me.

He didn’t need to send the email and copy the big bosses in but he did. I’m after a promotion and one of the big bosses likes me. I’ve never made any mistake so far in this role and I work my ass off. My work gets checked by another person and then finally by a big boss who puts their signature on it and they all missed my mistake. I honestly don’t think they checked it because they ‘trust’ me even though they should really check.

Anyway, now I’m worried that I’ve made this big boss look bad because it’s her signature on it and she has the final say. And she’s really proud of her work like me so I’m not sure how she’ll feel about this whole situation.

As for the guy who sent the email, he’s a little bit threatened by me (I think) and he doesn’t like this big boss as he’s apparently tried to get the same promotion I’m hoping for and this boss has told him he’ll never get it as his work ethic isn’t good enough. This guy literally works his own hours, always late, tells everyone no and never even helped me with my training.

So, the mistake I made was... I prepared a batch for release and it was 3 pages. On two of the pages I put the correct batch numbers (let’s say it was batch 203) but on the last page, I put 202 by accident. My finger must have hit 2 instead of 3. I always double check my work so not sure how I missed this. But you can clearly tell it was 203 as the first 2 pages had the correct numbers.

What are your thoughts?
