Bassinet vs crib

Emily

Hey Mamas! I am expecting my first in July 2020. I am looking for advice regarding bassinet vs crib.

My bedroom is very small and our king bed basically takes up the entire room. There is a very small walk way on each side of our bed. With that being said, I have been thinking this whole time that the baby would be in its bed in the room next to us from the start. I’d either get the Nanit or Baby Owl monitoring system.

My husband and I take up the whole bed and I feel like I’m all over the bed throughout the night so cosleeping in the same bed is not something I’m interested in for us.

However, on my husband’s side there is a corner (close to a window) where there would be room to put a Halo swivel bassinet if I remove the night stand. Someone I know recommended having a bassinet near the bed and explained it would be much easier for me, especially if I breast feed, because I could just sit up and feed/burp baby, then go back to bed. I respect her advice and started really considering it, but I started thinking, wouldn’t I need to get up to change diapers anyway? At least some of the times?? Because of someone else’s recommendation, I’ve also danced with the idea of staying downstairs and sleeping on the couch for the first month.

Does anyone have thoughts?? I don’t want to waste money on a bassinet. I personally (right now at least) feel comfortable having the baby in the other room with a nice monitor that monitors breathing and such. Since I don’t have any experience, I have posted a picture of my room for reference.
