Should I change my OB because I don't like the hospital that she delivers?

Question

I love my OB and she's 5-6min from my house. I'm currently 13+5wks pregnant. Unfortunately, I do not like the hospital that she has admitting privileges too. I found another hospital that I like which allows the type of birthing experience I dream for (free birthing/water) with an NICU but the nearest OB that has delivery privileges is 20miles away.  Also, please list any reasons that you've changed OB

personally for me delivery is so important. i wouldn’t advise you to go to an OB that you hate to get a good birthing experience but if you can find one you like almost as much as your current one I would. I had such a great experience at the hospital i delivered at with my first. For this pregnancy I briefly considered changing OBs but the hospital she delivered at was awful so I didn’t switch.

I go to an Ob that’s 45 minutes away because it’s 5 minutes from the hospital I like. Definitely worth it to go where you’ll be at your desired hospital for labor and delivery!

I don’t think 20 miles is a big deal at all. I’m in a small town and drive 45 minutes to my OB. Love my OB and I deliver at a larger hospital with the capabilities to take care of me and baby if things went sour.

I switched with my first for this very reason. I wanted to deliver at a different hospital than what my OB did. My first OB was closer to home but I’m glad I made the switch I felt much better especially after I had the baby. I had such a good experience at the hospital I originally wanted to go to. If you have your heart set on a certain hospital I would make the switch, especially if this is your first and your don’t quite know why to expect. I did and I’m glad I did even though it was about a hour away it was worth it to me

Considering I’m going to be driving an hour and 20 minutes to my OB because we moved and I love him and don’t want to switch, I don’t think 20 miles is a big deal. 
If you love her, but you want different birthing options, see if she can offer recommendations or suggestions. 
Just keep in mind that a birth plan is a just that-a plan, it doesn’t always go as planned. I wish you the best with it though!
