Abdominal abscess after csection
Well ladies let me share my story with you all especially since I googled and never found many moms who shared this experience.
Here I sit typing 3 weeks pp after csection feeling mildly ok. Which is unusual because this is my 3rd csection and with my first 2 I bounced back rather quickly (like 2 weeks).
On 1/23 I gave birth to my 7lb 14oz son all was well and then I noticed a week later I was still in pain and starting to feel a mass on my incision but more internal than external. I went in for my post op visit and was told everything looks great and I would be getting my tape removed next visit but it might fall off beforehand. Cool. The next couple of days became hell. The mass began to swell and it was hard for me to hold my baby. The mass went from a golf ball to a grapefruit. I was in pain. I went to my 2 week pp visit and he removed the tape and couldn't tell me What the mass was and just told me to keep an eye on it. Cool. As soon as I was headed home I started to feel a leak and smelt a repulsive smell. I had hubby take me straight to emergency room because I knew something wasn't right. It took them less than 30 min to triage me. I had a fever of 102 and puss and blood poured from my incision. I was treated for sepsis for 3 days. Although I eventually was found not septic, I had a really bad infection and an abdominal wall abscess. My incision spilt open once the tape was removed and the infection was able to drain. I could no longer breastfeed and have to take antibiotics for 14 days.
Moral of the story: if it don't seem right get it checked.
