Visitors after birth?

Question

Is it bad that I don’t want visitors coming to my house? I’d rather they come to the hospital.  
Anyone else wanting to do it that way? How are you planning to tell people? 
I would imagine my mom will do like she did with my nephew and have everybody just go to her house for like a “welcome baby” party, but I don’t know.

I’ll never understand why people make rules for stuff like this when they don’t know what to expect. This isn’t exactly breaking news, but newborns don’t do much. The first few weeks are boring. You may in fact be so bored you’ll want visitors. Or so tired, you may want someone there to hold the baby while you nap, or shower. I can’t imagine anyone expecting a full on hostess mode visit. And if you’re in pain, you can always say no in the moment vs making a rule about visits now, or say yes so you can rest while someone else is on baby duty. The more help you have the more relaxed and rested you can be, the easier the transition is.

I preferred people come to the hospital and get it out of the way, so then they could leave me the fuck alone once I got home. It's the cleanest environment, easiest to enforce visitation limits, hand sanitizer everywhere lol. People also don't generally like hanging around too long in a small hospital room, and you can easily get rid of them by saying you need to pump or need the baby. If it's at your house people feel too comfortable and overstay.

Once we're home I don't mind visitors as long as they call ahead. Sometimes you just don't feel like it but other times it's nice to have a visitor. Don't be afraid to tell people no but I wouldn't just automatically set a no visitors rule.

I didn’t mind too much when we had visitors at the hospital but I definitely didn’t want anyone at home for the first week. After that if I felt up to it and people ASKED before coming over I mostly said yes. I wasn’t bored. I was tired but just happy enough to be on my own and do my own thing and if I wanted company then sure. Dont feel pressured to have people over if you don’t want them.  It’s not about them. Baby will still be the same a day or a week later.

I’m opposite. I don’t want visitors at the hospital, I want to wait until I come home! I imagine I’ll be exhausted and will want to focus on bonding with baby in those first few days after birth. I think I’ll let people know to wait until the day after we come home before making visits.

We tell our family once I gave birth and they all show up to the hospital easy no cleaning no feed them they know at the hospital you have to sanitize your hands and it's a short visit. Once I get home a few people who couldn't make it comes and the rest they dont show up until something going on with the family.
