How to get rid of swelling from fluids?

Me

Megan

I had my daughter in the morning on Tuesday, 2/11. I didn’t have hardly any swelling while pregnant, but I woke up Wednesday morning to huge feet, ankles and legs. My nurse in the hospital said it was from all of the fluids administered while I received Pitocin and my epidural. It’s still just as bad now, if not a little worse, four days later. My nurse suggested walking around would ease the swelling and retention faster than the old school “put them up.” Anyone have any tips to help the swelling go down?

I had bad swelling for about a week after having my son but hadn't had any while pregnant. That first week I did a lot of slow walking but whenever I was sitting I would put my feet up.

I carried on as normal during the day and then at bedtime I elevated my feet on 2 cushions in bed throughout the whole night and this helped massively. By the next morning they had reduced, over a few days of doing the same thing it had completely gone.

Drank a lot of fluids including cranberry juice. Took close to 7 days though. I don’t know if the cranberry actually worked but someone told me about it on the 5th day.

Drink lots of water and stay off your feet as much as you can. But it's really just a matter of time. It should go away within 2 weeks.

It’s normal, unfortunately and can take a few weeks to go down. Drink plenty of water and stay active.

Yea waking helps much better than keeping feet elevated. With my first I had a csection and they gave me a lot of fluids. Along with my mom being a nurse and my OB nurses, all of them had me walking. My feet were so swollen that I could feel them jiggle, also my legs were pitting. Just have to walk a lot. But not over doing it.

Mine took about 10 days to go away. I was induced with pitocin and had fluids for the 12 hours I was in labor.

Took me a week after my second baby born last April. Plenty of fluids, keep your feet elevated, and compression socks.

I also had really bad swelling from the fluids and it took about a week to go away. I drank lots of water and elevated my feet during the day as much as i could. At night i also slept with my feet elevated. Personally, walking too much made it worse.
