Would you fight with your family over money/assets when a loved one dies?

Curious because I don’t understand how someone could, but I hear of it happening all the time and it recently happened to someone in our extended family after they passed away. I genuinely don’t understand how someone could do this after someone in their family passes away but it seems to be pretty common.

No. I would want one or two items for sentiments sake but I think it is SO tacky to fight over the money of a deceased loved one.

Absolutely. You dont really get to see the details when you hear about these stories. My grandmother and father both attempted suicide after my papas passing. He had 4 pistols and 2 rifles in the home. Me and my sisters took the guns from the home to hopefully prevent a successful suicide from my grandmother and dad living there. Thus the fight over material belongings began. We won in the end. 
Long story short, dont judge people if they decide to do that because you dont know how or why the battle even exists

No.  It's only material possessions.  But this is EXACTLY why it's so important to have a will written, signed and notarized so that situations like that can be avoided.

no. my family is very clear about our wills and who gets what. but we also understand that family is more important than money and other assets. i wouldn't fight my family over it, as finances can cause relationships to be irreparably damaged.

I don't understand how people get so uptight about money. Go get your own. 🤷‍♀️ If someone wants to have problems with me over money, I have nothing to worry about because I'll never speak to them again. That's petty af in my book.

Oh I will bet everything on this planet my siblings will fight like piranhas for my parent's money. Heck they do now! Complaining that so-so gets more than them (two of them have cards to my parent's account) It's sick, and sad my parents don't even realize my siblings care more about the money.

I hope not. I don’t imagine I would ever fight over money. My husband and I are financially stable, so we don’t have a need to spend energy fighting over money. I do think in some cases families get nasty and it usually stems from grief also tied to a recent loss. It happens a lot I am told.
My side of the family (parents) are quite wealthy, and I know my parents have a will. When the time comes I respect whatever decision they have made.
When my grandmother passed away, my Mom and her two sisters, and one SIL, have had touchy moments over things like jewelry.. my grandmother had both some expensive heirloom pieces as well as items that just had sentimental value (some of her sets were split up and remade into items for her grandchildren). I have vivid memories of her wearing certain pieces for special occasions and letting us play with her things for dress up as kids even when they probably should have been in a lock box (and often were). I think any of the tension was more from missing the matriarch of our family more then greed over expensive things
My inlaws are not in a great place financially, and I imagine if we fight about anything it will be about who has to handle selling and clearing out their house... which would likely be us as my husband is the older sibling and his sister isn’t going to be as responsible with something like that.. but again, we wouldn’t fight over money

My grandmother’s sibling’s kids fought over everything. It’s in my grandfather’s will that we all lose everything if we fight. Too many people do. They say they won’t, but they do.
