Queso while pregnant??

Question

I guess I wasn’t supposed to eat queso from a Mexican restaurant? I didn’t know this. I had it Saturday night and brought it to work today to heat up my other half of leftovers and my coworker told me after I ate the whole thing, smothered in queso I shouldn’t be eating that??? Why haven’t I heard of this? I am so cautious about what i eat and now I am sick to my stomach worrying about this..... ?? First time mom and worried now 🤦🏻‍♀️

You're fine. It used to be "any soft cheese" back in the day because soft cheeses were less likely to be pasteurized. However, FDA regulates that cheese sold in the USA needs to be pasteurized. 
Btw queso is just the spanish word for cheese. Since it doesnt specify what kind, I'm guessing you mean like the cheese dip, which has been heated/melted. So even if it was theoretically unpasteurized, you'd still be fine because it would have been cooked.

Odds are your fine, restaurant queso is probably made from pasteurized cheese/milk and even if it isn't it's heated. Your totally fine

99% of cheeses, unless you go to a farm stand, are pasteurized.

Maybe she confused it with cotija cheese? That’s the crumbly white cheese that can be unpasteurized.
