Speedy arrival surprised us all 😅
Finally getting around to sharing my birth story.. it’s been quite the adventure to say the least...
My last day of work was Feb 1st, and my due date was the 19th.
So on the 3rd and 4th I had two very busy days putting together last minute things for baby. On the 4th at 9:30 pm I posted a picture of his finished crib on Instagram with the caption ‘okay little one, your bed is ready, come use it anytime now’....
3 hours later I was standing over a puddle on the floor (hahaha, no panties 🤷♀️)
My hubby had just fallen asleep, and so when I woke him up with the news he was a bit taken aback.
I called my midwife, and because I had no contractions or any other signs of labour she requested I meet her at the hospital for monitoring. At this point I was exactly 38 weeks and hadn’t packed a hospital bag so we rushed to do that and got to the hospital around 2 am.
We were monitored until 4 am and she wasn’t happy with baby’s heart rate so she decided an induction would be the best way forward to get him out as soon as possible... little did she know how soon it would really be. 😂
Since I was induced my care was transferred over to an OB (but my mind wife hung around the entire time) and a nurse started the pitocin around 5 am. At 6:30 I was in a lot of pain so I had them check me and I was only 2 cm dilated... too soon for an epidural 😩.
So I held my tongue and sucked it up for an hour, until at 7:30 I couldn’t stand it anymore and begged a nurse to check again. To her (and everyones) surprise I was a solid 7 cm dilated and it was too late for an epidural 🤣
Hubby and the midwife decided this would be a good time for them to grab coffee and some breakfast. They barely made it back in time...
At this point I’m not really sure of time frames but essentially I told my nurse I felt like I needed to push and she told me not to so I wouldn’t swell. She checked me again and I was 8 cm... this is when the midwife and hubby came back. I think I made it through two more contractions when I finally yelled at them that I could feel his head and I needed to push!
There was no OB in the room, just one nurse and my midwife. The nurse ran and pushed a button behind the door and the midwife got into position to deliver the baby 😂
It was all a blur and seemed like a scene from a movie...
The OB, a pediatrician and another nurse came literally running into the room.
I pushed 3 or 4 times and at 8:36 am Theodore was placed on my chest.
He needed to spend 5 days in the NICU but now we’re homing and growing like a weed ❤️
All in all, I was in labour for a total of 3.5 hours and recovery was pretty easy. I had the teeniest tear and as the OB was stitching me up she told me I’d be a really good candidate for a scheduled induction in the future. 😂
