My friend Nicole was born into poverty with an absent father and a prostitute mother. On the rare nights that Nicole’s mother came home sober and alone, she would tell Nicole stories of how their life will be soon. Nicole’s mother always promised her that they would move to Washington and have a beautiful life. Nicole held on to this fantasy to survive. When Nicole was five, her mother died of a heroin overdose.

This put Nicole into the foster care system. After a few months, CPS found her uncle, who was willing to take Nicole in. She was then repeatedly abused and raped from ages 6-11. The only thing Nicole had to remind herself that it would be okay was the stories about Washington. Nicole was then thrown back into the system when her uncle was arrested.

I met Nicole in high school. We became very close, and Nicole practically lived with me because it was the only place where she had any real support in her life. Now, as a senior, I want to give a gift to Nicole before we go our separate ways. I want to travel to Washington with Nicole so she can finally live out her dream. I have been working and doing everything I can to get enough money, but I am about $850 short. Please help. Every penny does something. Thanks.
