How to contact tattoo artist about pricing??

The last tattoos I have gotten I was able to just walk in and tell them want I want and then schedule the appointment. This time I want to go to an artist that is an hour away so I really do not want to drive that far for a consultation. What all do I include in the message? I have an idea that I would like to make a few adjsutments to. But this is ultimately what I would like

You can call and ask if you emailed them the picture and have the size you wanted if they could give you an estimate since you live so far away. Other than that you would have to go in and see

My artist only had me do a consultation for a cover up... just to get a full feel of what he’s covering. Typically consultations are where you talk about ideas and give them a deposit. 
My artist doesn’t make me do a consultation/deposit cause he knows when I schedule I’m 100% going to be there. So I pay in full at the time of the appointment.
The deposit is the important part so if it’s an artist you’ve never been to, they’ll probably want you come to a consultation. Usually a deposit is $50-60 and it basically pays for the sketching portion, so if you don’t show up and they drew your design, they still make money from the work they did. (In case you’re not tatted, the deposit comes off the tattoo price. So if your tattoo is $150 for example. The deposit is $50. Then at the appt you’ll only pay the remaining $100 and then whatever tip amount) 
if anything email them your image, insert any alterations you want, and give them a few days to get back to you. When they respond, start working out scheduling and see if the artist requires a consultation or offer to Venmo the deposit or something. You can always call the shop too and see if you can chat with them. 
If they do want a consultation, if it’s a good artist with great work, it’ll be worth the extra drive to go honestly. I have an hour drive for my artist and it’s worth it every time.
