Can someone please explain intermittent fasting to me?

I have googled it and know the basic definition lol I was just hoping someone could give me an "in depth" explanation of it, because I really want to try it.

How does the eating schedule work?

How long do I go in between meals?

How many calories should I ingest when I do eat?

Do I eat all of my daily calories at once or do I spread them out through out my "allowed" eating time?

Does sleeping count as part of your food restriction time?

Can I drink water while in a restriction period?
