How do you tell your parents?

I just started dating a guy long distance we’ve known each other since we were 11 but he lives 1,194 miles away from me. It’s hard because I haven’t told my parents yet. How do I go about this. I want them to know how much he means to me and how he treats me better than my ex. Tell me how you told yours might help me when I tell mine.

Hi! I have been dating my boyfriend for 6 months now after him being my best friend for about a year. What I did, I just started mentioning that I played games with him, and slowly worked my way up to, “He is coming to our state for a college tour and we’d like to hang out if that’s alright” just MAKE SURE THAT THEY KNOW YOU WILL Be SAFE. Tell them that you will meet him with them or your friends or whoever they trust you would be safe with. Your parents main concern will be that you are safe and ARENT being catfished or groomed or whatever. Best of luck X

Hi! I would suggest explaining how great your relationship is, and then introduce that it’s long distance. There will be questions and possibly doubt but as long as you are secure with your relationship you will have an answer or a way to explain yourself. 
I told my Mom about my long distance relationship about 4 months in, especially because I was about to leave the country to visit him. She was more accepting when she was able to speak with him. Now that they have met each other they have created their own relationship. Don’t be afraid. You got this.
