My best friend is HPV positive - please help

She just called me and is hysterical. I did my best on trying to console her and pass along the info I’ve learned off of here. She’s having a coloposcopy (not sure if I spelled that right) tomorrow. She’s had zero signs of having HPV she says and she’s already thinking the worst and thinking it’s cancerous. Even went as far as saying she would want me to raise her son if anything were to happen to her 😭 I told her I know it’s easier said than done but don’t jump to the worst before you know the exact details.

I tried to reassure her that at least whatever type it is, it’s early because she just had a clear pap 6 months ago maybe even less. She got another one + full std panel recently after leaving her relationship. She 100% stays up on all her paps and gyno appts and I’m so proud of her for doing so. I told her God forbid you didn’t go to gyno for a year or more and then find out you have something!

Any info you’d pass along to her? Any advice for the coloposcopy? I’ve read some women saying they are in some pain after. Should she take ibuprofen beforehand? Is HPV something that can lay dormant for x amount of time and then show up on her pap? Or is this from her most recent partner?
