supervised injection sites

something I saw on the news today- Philadelphia is set to open a “supervised injection site”; an official and clean site where drug users can go to shoot up drugs under medical supervision for their own safety. thoughts? should these sites be encouraged and used to save lives or discouraged or used to put people in medical or criminal/legal supervision?

editing to add a side argument because most of the comments agree with each other: how do you think sites like these should be paid for? tax dollars? private funding? funds from places like rehabilitation or education centers? or any other ideas you may have
