Is this normal kind of scared

My 3 week old son sleeps in REM mode with his eyes wide open.. I was literally playing with him & all the sudden he just got glossy eyed and started twitching and smiling and breathing hard which I know is when he’s in active sleep anyone else’s newborn does this ? When he’s in deep sleep he sleeps with his eyes closed it’s only the active sleep where he does a lot of twitching smiling eyes open different facial expressions just weird he was wide awake didn’t even close his eyes & he was sleeping
