Bleeding After Orgasm

Hi all.

So I started my period on the 16th—or I believe I did. My bleeding is very light and I typically have light periods, since I was about 18/19. Before then it was pretty heavy. Anyway, in January I had a heavy flow and thought it was because I had gotten out if and used to a less stressful environment but this month I am back to light.

A period for me typically lasts 7 days at most. I thought it stopped a couple of times already but would wake to find spots. Now, I have experimented slightly. I masturbate pretty frequently, and thought maybe it was inserting my fingers that made me bump something that I shouldn’t have. I went a couple of days without touching myself, woke to find little to no bleeding. Then I tried clitoral masturbation. After I have an orgasm that way, I bleed more, as much as I did when I thought I had bumped something wrong through penetration. So I think orgasms are actually one of the underlying factors of my extended and irregular bleeding. I am a virgin. I saw a specialist on campus and she told me there was no hint of blood in my urine at that time and that what I am describing sounds normal for my body but that it would be best to go to the health department to get an exam and possibly birth control to regulate myself.

My question is, have any of you experienced prolonged, light bleeding/spotting after an orgasm? And if so, what was the cause?
