Pacifier?!!

I'm debating using a pacifier for my 3.5 week old baby. Is it too early? Up until now she's been using my breast as a pacifier. She falls asleep latched on and sucks on and off in her sleep. Should I let her continue to do that instead of the pacifier?

Totally up to you. My son was breastfed and used one in the hospital when he was born. He had no issues with nipple confusion.

Nipple confusion has been proven wrong. We introduced the pacifier around 2 weeks because she was soothed by sucking on our fingers and would try to get her thumb in her mouth. She loves the pacifier and breastfeeds just fine - it's obvious when she's hungry because she'll spit the pacifier out.

Like day 3. He was never confused. Nipple confusion isn’t real. He also had a bottle on day 4 because my milk wasn’t coming and he was STARVING. We still BFd fine for months.

It's not too early. I introduced bottle at 4 weeks which I think was right on time so they don't reject it. I waited until 8 weeks for paci and it took him quite a while to take it.

I took a breastfeeding class at the hospital and they said 3/4 weeks is ideal.

I would avoid pacifiers as long as I could. I wasn’t going to give my son one but the NICU started him on it without my permission.
