Preeclampsia diagnosis today,,, confused me ??

Moms diagnosed with preeclampsia... I've been officially diagnosed today but my dr didnt explain anything to me. He just made a joke that now we probably dont have to worry about inducing for a big baby because my baby will probably be born early. So can someone explain to me what to expect and what not? I dont have high blood pressure, just mildly elevated protein and swelling and some upper abdomen pain. I'm 26 weeks so when is an average time for delivery and does this mean I'll have to have a c section?

Okay a couple things. I had preeclampsia in my first pregnancy at 27 weeks, and I delivered by induction at 37, so I have some perspective on this.
Any OB who would make a joke about your pre-e diagnosis is terrifying and you should not see them. I’m serious. You need a consult with a maternal fetal medicine specialist and a new OB.
People who develop pre-e this early often have more severe cases. You need to be monitored closely. It can be fatal to you and/or to your baby. I cruised along with no severe symptoms for ten weeks. Other people have to be induced as soon as they’re diagnosed - even if that means 26 weeks. It depends on your blood pressure and your other symptoms.
Facebook has a great support group that’s moderated by people with actual medical knowledge, go join it. 
Your doctor is an idiot. Preeclampsia is not going to make you go into preterm labor. It can make it necessary to have an early induction.

I'm very surprised he would joke about something so serious. Its not funny at all. I developed preeclampsia with severe features at 36 weeks. I had elevated liver function, headaches, blurred vision and high blood pressure. I went to hospital and they induced labor immediately. Ideally they want you to get to at least 37 weeks. Hoping symptoms stay mild in your case. Watch for sudden increase in swelling, headaches that can't be relieved with tylenol, pain in abdomen (upper right side specifically, not sure where yours is) and blurred vision. Also, it would be a good idea to monitor blood pressure at home. Greater than 140/90 is cause for concern. Best wishes and take care.

I had preeclampsia with 2 pregnancies I was induced with both one at 37 and the other at 36 weeks . I’m Now 18 weeks with my third pregnancy and hope I don’t get it.

I had preeclampsia but much later on that you. I believe they will monitor you regularly to see if the protein is rising. Once it reaches a high level (where baby needs to come out) they will induce you. Unless yours or babies life is at risk then a csection. 
I had preeclampsia at 37 weeks and I feel reflecting back now the swelling was there a long time. I didn’t feel unwell with preeclampsia but just make sure you take it easy.
