Precipitous Birth 😳
So, 1 day overdue, I start contracting and choose to labor at home a while. I put on my hypnobirthing track, so I can zen out and nap. At this point, contractions are coming every 6 mins or so. They weren't super intense, but were intensifying enough to wake me every time I dozed off. I'm now 12 hours in, and it's clear I'm too far gone to get any rest 😩 But good thing, cause after a 40 minute ride to the hospital, there was barely any time to spare! I was so calm that the first nurse asked a 2nd nurse to check how far I'd dilated again. We were shocked I was at 8 cm already, cause I wasn't in as much pain as any of us would've expected. So I'm like, great!! Maybe only a couple more hours of this 🙌🏾 So, the triage nurse and I (along with my husband and 2 kids), walk to the delivery room across the hall. Soon as I get in the door, I have to pee and head straight to the potty. I pee a tiny bit, then a huge contraction comes and I'm stuck. I holler to the nurse that I'm coming as soon as the contraction passes. Right when I thought it was passing over, I'm hit with the urge to push. I couldnt control it, so I holler to the nurse that I can't stop pushing. She and the triage nurse, who never even had a chance to leave the room, scream "NO!" and run in to help me off the toilet...but not before baby starts crowning 😲 They help me shuffle to the bed, and I get on knees first, cause I'm scared I'll squish his head. Another huge urge to push, and out pops his head 😬 At this point, I can't stop pushing, I'm far too close to the edge of the bed to deliver on all fours, and I can't figure out a way to lie down with a head between my thighs 🤦🏽♀️ I'm trying to hold this kid in as best I can, hoping this urge to push will let up enough for me to move. My husband tries to pep talk me into lying back. I say for the 3rd time, I really can't move...my brain could not catch up with what was happening with body enough to figure out how to maneuver. So, my husband literally picks me up, flips me on my back, and lays me down in one quick but somehow still gentle motion. And no sooner than my back hits the bed, baby's body pops out 😳 My husband has to help the nurse unwrap the cord from his neck, while the triage nurse scrambles for the clamp and scissors. Meanwhile, the baby is fine and lying on my chest falling asleep...so unbothered, lol! Our 8lb, almost 1 ounce, 20 inch baby boy came like a whirlwind but has proven to be my easiest baby yet. He's 2 weeks today ❤❤
