Hawaii

Those of y’all that got Hawaii orders. How did you get your stuff there? Did you buy new? What places ship cheap to Hawaii? HELP. It seems like we’re gonna be broke. 😭😭😭 we already decided to sell both our cars and buy one family one out there. But with all our stuff is it even worth to ship? They gave him a government issued credit card to pay for stuff but apparently he has to pay it back.

My husband and I just came from Schofield Barracks, HI and cheap was never really a thing. We ended up buying minimal goods there and only brought what a few suitcases would hold. I want to say with military orders, Alaska Airlines will ship five bags weighing up to 100 pounds each for free. There's a military facebook market group of people PCSing and selling their stuff. That's the cheapest way we found to buy things. Keep in mind, things rust crazy fast there since you're RIGHT on the ocean. We stayed off base and the local housing typically doesn't have AC and relies on the wind for cooling. Even the indoor appliances start to rust. Could've just been our luck, but we got rear ended (not horribly) about every 6 months like clockwork, and had lots of door dings. My advice would be to buy a beater car and don't take anything you care too much about. It's a bit nicer with on base housing because they're more airtight and you can blast the AC units all day and not worry about the bill.

Hi there! Currently stationed in Hawaii on jbphh! Will the military not ship your household goods and car? That’s how we got everything here paid for and all! Some things I highly recommend if you are shipping your items is to purchase what you can before you get here just because hardly anyone ships stuff here and if they do it’s outrageously priced for shipping! If you can’t get a car shipped here people sell them like crazy here so finding an “island beater” shouldn’t be too hard to do. Try joining the neighborhood Facebook pages! You can ask any and all questions on there and everyone is usually super supportive and will answer all your questions! Also pets!! If you have any they have to go through the quarantine process! It’s a huge pain in the butt but if you get an early start on it it shouldn’t be too big of a deal! If you have any questions please don’t be afraid to message me! Moving here sucks but living here is a dream to me (other than how expensive it is😂😅)

My ex SIL just got back from Hawaii, her husband was stationed there for several years. They moved from AZ. They put most of their stuff in storage or sold it and only took things they REALLY wanted or needed. You'll have to just shop around for a moving company. They took one of their cars with them but ended up selling and buying a new one
