Baby oil and powder??

Question

Okay so this is probably a dumb question but I’m a first time mom so... 
what is baby oil for and what is baby powder for?
I’ve done some research and it really seems like I could just use diaper rash cream... but I’m not sure if the baby powder is for something else. 
And can’t I just use baby lotion and not baby oil? 
Someone please help I’m about to have a baby and idk what I really NEED

I use the powder alot my LO is breastfed so her poo is always very runny. The powder helped keep her bum dry. If she started to get a rash I'd alternate cream and powder with each change.

The hospital told me not to use baby powder because it can get in their lungs and baby oil is pointless because baby’s skin doesn’t absorb it so it isn’t moisturizing baby lotion is better

Neither of those are needed. Powder can cause yeast infections and other problems. I would use a good cream like aquaphor over baby oil for dry skin

My boy doesn’t wake up when he has a wet diaper so I sprinkle a little baby powder on his front before bed but that’s all... I’m sure he could do without though. I use the baby oil for myself when I shave. Lol

I’ve heard baby powder is actually really bad for baby. I just use diaper cream. As for baby oil, you can use oil or lotion on their skin. I do use baby oil though to help with cradle cap because I wouldn’t put lotion in his hair.
