Is it wrong not to attend a funeral of an ex if they treated you so badly?

I saw my ex’s mom and she told me he just passed Thursday and they were making arrangements and she would like me to come and you know to pay respects. But the thing is her son treated me so badly. Physically and emotionally. She doesn’t know these things but I don’t know how to say no to her. I don’t want to tell her because of his passing and want her to just have good memories of her son. Idk what to do

You don’t owe anyone an explanation, not even her. You can simply tell her that you’re very sorry for her loss, but that you unfortunately won’t be able to attend.

I think the reasons are 100% valid but I think I would probably send her a card or something. I wouldn’t want to change her views of her son during that hard time so make an excuse as to why you’re not going.
