Dumb question maybe?

Question

So I’m just wondering if I’m supposed to mark the day I start spotting as the first day of my period? I usually start by just slightly spotting the day before my period and I’m not sure if this would actually be considered the first day of my period. We are currently ttc so I’m trying to track as accurate as possible. Sorry if this is a dumb question. I’m new to the whole tracking my period and ovulation.

It’s not a dumb question.
Spotting is separate from your period, since spotting can happen at any time throughout your cycle, whereas your period is a very specific process that marks the beginning of a new cycle.
Mark any spotting as “spotting” in your app(s).

First day is when you have an actual flow. If in the morning you are spotting but by  supper have an actual flow then mark it. But if you are just spotting all day and have a flow in the very early am hours into the next day write that one. By the same token when blood flow stops it's the end . I sometimes spot the day before flow then bleed 3 days and spot a 4th. So I will usually write day 1 as when flow started but keep period at 4 days because I will have a small flow in the morning of 4th day before it reverts to just spotting. Pay close attention to your body as you go through your cycle so you learn your bodies patterns.
