Social distancing activities ?

What are you guys doing with your kids now that we're all supposed to be staying home? We've been staying home most of the winter anyway because of cold/flu and our new baby, but it's easier to stay inside when the weather is crappy! It's been really nice lately and it's hard to say no to going to the playground. We've been playing with bubbles and chalk on our front steps, but we don't really have a good backyard for playing (we live with my parents and my parents let their dogs out in the yard and rarely clean up after them if you know what I mean 🙄💩), and bubbles and chalk get kinda boring fast. We've also been trying to go for walks around the neighborhood but y'all know how tough it is to keep a toddler from touching everything they see. 🤔😷

It’s really hard to say no to playgrounds. Babes just don’t get why we can’t go, it’s sad. We self quarantined Sat., so only 2 days so far (of 20 or more?!?) and it is so tough!! I’ve been trying to set up activities at night so they are ready the next day. It’s so hard with my 9 month old wanting to do everything the toddler does. Some successful things...watercolors and paint- I’ve been trying different “tools” to paint; lemons, sponges, toilet paper rolls, q-tips), rice and beans sensory bin with little toys inside, cups, measuring cups and rings to play. Lots of water play- “bathing” babies dolls and animals. “Washing” play shopping cart-using a toothbrush lol!Stamps and cutting and gluing paper. We made play-doh yesterday and took 3 walks around the neighborhood! I’m checking Pinterest for daily ideas! It helps, but also time consuming to prep some that then takes 2 minutes to play! Hang in there and good for you for social distancing and taking it seriously! It is spreading quickly in my area, yet some people are choosing to ignore recommendations. We are helping to slow the spread even though it is difficult!!

We have also been hiking. We have some acreage and live along a river so theres virtually nobody around for miles. We are very fortunate in that sense. My husband and I grow plants as part of our business so I will be taking some time to show my little one how fun playing in the dirt can be and growing things. (This also can be done inside in small spaces) we are seed starting our garden. Weve been doing science projects. Corn starch and water. Slime. Sink or float. Pinterest has helped tremendously! We have made race tracks and ramps with empty boxes. Practicing using a scissors and chopping small soft foods with a butter knife. We do a lot of forts and imagination play. Old paper towel tubes can be magic wands or pirate swords. Lots of baking going on recently. (Trying to keep it healthy)I got a big flat storage tub and filled it with 5lbs of kinetic sand and some diggers and dump trucks and dinosaur bone toys. Give him a paintbrush and scoops. Hours of fun! And yes, we have been watching more movies and of course my son doesnt mind.

I love the sink or float idea! I'm totally doing that today!

We have been hiking!! I strap the 1 year old in the carrier and we go on long walks to nature reserves! Since the schools have closed 1 or 2 other people have had the same idea, but the wilderness is really big enough to stay 6 feet away if we need to. We also have a few open fields in Parks, I have been taking a ball to kick around. I did some sensory activities, jello with toys at the bottom that they have to dig up. Duck taped large paper to the porch and let them finger paintI have been letting toddler play in the sink. Pretend to do the dishes.TV....Hunestly I have really really loosened up on TV. My anxiety is going crazy over this. So, I have been just giving us all grace. There has been talk about us not being able to leave soon though. We live in an elderly community it's 65+. So if 1 person gets it in the 50 people that live here. We won't be able to leave our apartment until all cases are gone in the community. So I am gonna go out today and try and find more crafts. No one here is taking it seriously. The old ladies that I talk to in the laundry room where still going to the gym, bingo, the store everyday. So, I'm assuming it's only a matter of time because they start checking our temperatures. 😟😟

Hey girl. Your near philly? How are you guys holding up? You and your family okay? I'm on the other side of PA. We have a few cases but nothing crazy. How are your grocery stores? Are you able to get everything?

Ugh I can't stand that people aren't taking it seriously. My sister was doing that until a couple days ago. She lives in Los Angeles where people are already on top of each other all the time anyway, still taking her son to playgrounds and on buses. They've basically closed everything there now so she doesn't have much of a choice but to stay home now! And to that I say - good!

Ours and 6 other counties around us have been mandated to shelter in place. So no more nature walks even. So hard...I forgot to add stickers to my “go-to” list!

Lol Pen I feel ya... we live with my parents too. I never realized how infrequently my dad washes his hands it’s driving me crazy!! He took the trash out and walked the dog when he got home I’m like Hello wash your hands! He just rolled his eyes and went to the couch 📺🤯 Anyway our toddler is actually doing really well with it. I’m so glad she’s not older. We do a lot of arts and crafts type things and she loves games on her Amazon Tablet. Walk once per day. Trying to take advantage and potty train a bit here and there and reading lots of books! Hang in there mamas 💪🏼

Ugh the parents not being responsible with hand washing is UNBELIEVABLE. My dad is the same way. He's been acting like a jerk for days because I don't really want to have him interacting with me or the kids since he's been going out shopping and stuff and CLEARLY not being careful about social distancing so I'm like ok so I guess we'll have to social distance at home! We've been hand washing like crazy all winter since we just had a baby end of November but it's on a whole other level now!
