If I just moved and my sons dr said he needs a well child check is that bad?

He said “it looks like he hasn’t had one in awhile” what??? I didn’t even know they regularly needed to go to the dr for no reason.

Everyone needs to go to the Dr once a year. Preventative maintenance is best.

It’s normal. Kids are supposed to be seen regularly to ensure proper development. Just like adults should be seen regularly to make sure all is still well. Most things are more easily dealt with if found early. 
When we go to the pediatrician, they say: “okay, let’s schedule her next visit”. I’m surprised your doctor never said this to you. 
So while what he is asking is completely normal, I’d also say that if you don’t go to this one he’s is requesting, that he might become concerned. Some states could view this as medical neglect for not following up with well child checks, especially if vaccines are missing and there’s no exemption form for missing those vaccines. 
So definitely schedule and attend (regularly).

Wow I'm surprised that the doctors office you were previously at hadnt mentioned this to you before. They are supposed to go once a year from 24 months on. I'm surprised that the last time you took him they didnt schedule your next appointment right then and there! I know date and time for ours for next year and just had it in February. The doctors office usually does this by default where I am and it's also necessary if your kiddo is in daycare as they require the yearly paperwork.

Everyone is supposed to go to the doctor at least once a year, especially children who need growth and development checks. Its completely normal and even more so for a new doctor to start a baseline with your child
